Plummer steps down as Lamar head coach

By By Richard Dark/The Meridian Star
Dec. 6, 2000
Citing personal reasons, Lamar School head football coach J. J. Plummer stepped down from the position Monday.
Plummer, who recently completed his second season at the Lamar helm, saw his Raiders finish 4-7 in his first year and 2-9 this past season.
In a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon, Lamar School administrator Termie Land said he wished Plummer well in his next endeavor.
Plummer said he felt the Raiders' rebuilding process was hampered by other factors.
The Raiders also began this season without four starters who were expected to contribute heavily.
Plummer also pointed to the fact that athlete participation levels at the school were not where they should be.
And ultimately, the lack of participation may have been what spurred the decision.
Plummer said he wasn't sure what his next job would be, but was leaning toward leaving the MPSA and perhaps trying for a post in the public school ranks.
