DECATUR The murder trial of Stacey Posey, indicted for the May shooting of ex-wife Ginger Nester, was scheduled to begin this morning in Newton County Circuit Court.
Nester was shot in the chest with a .44-caliber handgun just before 7 a.m. on May 17. The attack occurred in Decatur, in the parking lot of the Peavey Electronics plant on Highway 503.
Posey was arrested by Jackson authorities around noon in the parking garage of the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, after a search that included Newton, Scott and Rankin counties. A Jackson investigator met Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight and his deputies in Pelahatchie, and Posey was transported to the Newton County jail.
Peavey employees including many who witnessed the tragedy were devastated. Jere Hess, public relations and education director, said the plant was closed the following day and a critical incident team from Weems Community Health Center on site as employees returned to work.
Posey's trail was to begin at 9 a.m. Knight said his defense attorneys are Robert Brooks and Shawn Harris, while District Attorney Ken Turner will be presenting evidence against Posey. Circuit Judge Vernon Cotton is presiding.
