Getting ready for A Taffeta Christmas'

By Staff
Special to The Star
Nov. 26, 2000
A quartet of singing sisters will bring out the spirit of the holiday season to the Meridian Little Theatre stage in the production "A Taffeta Christmas."
Karen Miller, Ginger Grissom Stevens, Jennifer Hermetz and Ann Marie Hall will star in the sparkling musical with a trip down memory lane, which opens Thursday at the Highway 39 North playhouse. The production will be directed by residential director Jimmy Pigford.
In this festival musical review The Tafettas, a pretty sisters singing group, host a very special holiday edition of "Hometown Hoedown" from the Moose Hall in Muncie, Ind. Kaye, Peggy, Cheryl and Donna will perform their first television Christmas special. Some of their favorite songs include "Secret Love," "Jingle Bell Rock," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," "Mister Santa," "Dream Lover" and "White Christmas."
The role of Kaye, the oldest sister who leads the group, will be played by Miller. A new comer to the theatre, she recently returned from China, where she served as a medical missionary.
Stevens will portray Peggy, the pretty blonde sister. A veteran of the MLT stage, Stevens starred as the female lead Laurey in the theatre's production of "Oklahoma" and as Daisy Mae in "L'il Abner." She also directed MLT's Youth Division production of "The Wizard of Oz" in 1986.
Hermetz, who will play Cheryl, also is a MLT veteran having portrayed Liesl in "The Sound of Music" and Liza in MLT's Youth Production of "Peter Pan." The reigning Meridian Junior Miss is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Hermetz.
The role of Donna, the youngest sister, will be brought to life by Hall, who has performed in MLT's "Babes in Toyland," "A Christmas Carol," "Cinderella" and "The Sound of Music." She also appeared in Meridian High School's production of "MacBeth Did It."
A special guest appearance will be made by the Alpha Hi-Steppers, who will tap and kick their way into the Christmas Folly. The Mary Alpha Donnelly dance troupe appeared in "Stepping Out" at Meridian Little Theatre several seasons ago.
Robert Hermetz is vocal director and Carol Merrill choreographer.
For information concerning tickets, call the Meridian Little Theatre Box Office at 482-6371, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
