Nov. 30, 2000
There's something new about the 13th Annual G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Jingle Bell Run and Walk.
This year, the event will take at place at Bonita Lakes, instead of the race's previous home at Highland Park and will also start at a different time.
The race will take place Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Registration will be from 7 a.m. until 8:15 a.m.
The race will feature a 5K run, a two-mile walk and a one-mile children's run. Registration fees for the 5K run and two-mile walk is $14 and $12 for the children's run.
In the 5K run, the race will begin in front of the front lake and go across the dam to the back parking lot, back across the dam and will conclude with a single lap around the front lake. The two-mile run will also start in front of the lake where walkers will almost go to the dam and turn around and make a lap around the front lake. The one-mile fun run will be around the front lake.
Awards will be presented in 12 age divisions as well as overall male and female awards and will follow the children's run. There will also be awards presented for the two-mile walk and the one-mile children's run.
The race is handled by the Meridian Athletic Association and sponsored by Conoco Super Stop and G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery. For more information, contact Harold Keyes at 482-0295, Jerry Parker at 485-8980 or Mark Sharp at 626-8939.
