Kilavorus Thompson scored 15 points, all in the second half, and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Southern Mississippi to a 54-43 win Tuesday night over South Alabama.
A 3-point play, a dunk, and two free throws by Thompson sparked a 13-2 run to start the second half, but it was Southern Mississippi's aggressive defense that won the game.
The Golden Eagles (4-0) limited South Alabama to 33 percent shooting and would have had an easy time with the Jaguars if not for poor shooting of its own. The Golden Eagles shot just 32 percent.
The Jaguars (3-2) scored just two points in the first nine minutes of the second half.
Southern Miss led 25-19 at the half.
Ole Miss women 76, Ark.-Little Rock 74: Becky Myatt scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, as Mississippi chipped away at an 18-point lead to beat Arkansas-Little Rock 76-74 Tuesday night.
Ole Miss (4-0) took the lead for the first time in the game, 61-59, at the 8:02 mark in the second half.
The Lady Rebels got off to a slow start and trailed by as many as 18 points before cutting into the lead before halftime.
Arkansas-Little Rock (1-2), which shot 53 percent for the game, led 42-36 at the half.
Muci Harris had 23 points for Arkansas-Little Rock. Roberta Sarti added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Sherika Wright had 14 points and Von Kirk added 12 for the Lady Rebels.
Ole Miss men 76, Louisiana-Monroe 62: Rahim Lockhart had 16 points and 10 rebounds as Mississippi extended its non-conference home winning streak to 38 games with a 76-62 win Tuesday over Louisiana-Monroe.
Lockhart got his 16th career double-double and led a balanced offensive effort for the Rebels (4-0). Justin Reed and Jason Flanigan added 14 and 12 points.
Ole Miss has the third-longest non-conference home winning streak in the nation and the Rebels had an easy time with Louisiana-Monroe (1-3).
David Sanders and Justin Reed highlighted the run with four points each while Rahim Lockhart pulled down four rebounds and got three steals.
The game's biggest lead, 61-42, came with 10:01 remaining on a jumper by Flanigan.
