CAUSEYVILLE Construction of a new bridge on Causeyville Road is expected to be complete next week. The bridge is part of an $864,000 Mississippi Department of Transportation project that should be complete early next year.
Until the 240-foot bridge is complete, drivers are crossing on a temporary detour bridge next to the new one.
Funded by the MDOT's State Aid Division, the project includes widening existing cross-drains, widening Causeyville Road, building the new bridge and a complete asphalt overlay, Carson said.
The MDOT part of the project is being done by Magco of Laurel.
Carson said the workers will widen the cross-drains first, breaking up the existing asphalt to put the new cross-drains in.
Lauderdale County supervisors approved a $4,000 payment to East Mississippi Electric Power Association last week to relocate temporarily three power poles located next to the bridge construction site. After the project is finished, Carson said EMEPA workers will probably have to come back and move the poles back to their original positions.
