School board selects Witherspoon principal

By By Stacey Hancock/The Meridian Star
Brenda Edwards, assistant principal of Kate Griffin Junior High, has been named principal of Witherspoon Elementary School.
The announcement came at Monday night's meeting of the Meridian School Board.
Edwards applied for the position in late October, after current principal Morris Stanton resigned.
She said she is looking forward to "getting into" the school and making it work not only for the students but for the parents also.
Edwards made no comment about the planned closure of Witherspoon.
School board members said they feel Edwards is a good choice, but regret breaking up a good team at Kate Griffin.
Interviews are under way to replace Edwards at Kate Griffin Junior High School, but no candidates' names have been released.
Edwards will take charge at Witherspoon at the beginning the second semester.
