Moore proposes moving two voting boxes
Two Franklin County voting locations could both be housed under one roof – with an eye toward increased convenience and accessibility – depending on the outcome of a proposal by Probate Judge Barry Moore.
In last week’s county commission meeting, Moore broached the topic of moving Russellville’s Electric Warehouse and Old College Avenue School voting boxes and housing them both at the A.W. Todd Centre, citing more and better parking and accessibility as key benefits of the proposed change.
“This has nothing to do with changing voting precinct lines or combining voting boxes,” Moore emphasized. The new site would simply serve as a single location for the – still individual – voting boxes.
County commissioners were behind the proposal with hardly any discussion or debate, agreeing the the Todd Centre provides a more central location with greater ease of access.
The commission voted to give Moore the authority to proceed with the proposal, which must go through the state legislature to become effective.
Moore said he hopes to have the change ready for the 2018 elections.
